For this first day of filming, we focused on getting used to the camera, location, actors and testing out how our smoke pellets worked. Although we did not get all the shots we were hoping for, I still believe day 1 of filming was very beneficial. Throughout the day we became more familiar with the camera and the styles of shots we were hoping to achieve. What I believed to have worked best and what we will continue to do for future shots, is specifically setting out the actors in such a way that they are all on different levels and at different angles. We found this most effective as it allowed for the overall image to be more appealing within the frame and give a more sinister vibe, as shown in the image above. Day 1 of filming also allowed us to get used to our props of the animal masks and the smoke pellets. Unfortunately, what we found with the animal masks was that they appeared too small for some of the actors faces, therefore we did not achieve the complete look that we were hoping for. Another problem we came across was that we did not light the smoke pellets properly. However, it was for this reason that we decided to have a test run so we can improve for future shots.
Although day 1 of filming was not completely successful in gaining all the shots we had hoped, it did allow us to experiment and watch back footage so that we now know what shots we need to focus on and how in future days.
In preparation for filming, me and nicole decided to look at various locations and then decide where fits best. The features we were most looking for is areas with open space, as well as areas surrounded by trees. One of the main settings we are hoping to film within is a clearing we had found in Frensham Little Ponds where it was a circle of open space, surrounded by trees deep in the forest. We considered this location to be perfect for many of our shots, in which we are hoping to create a sinister and creepy vibe. However, we will also be filming in various others places within the woods, so we are then able to get a variety of different shots and settings to make the video more visually appealing.
The benefits of scouting out our location previous to filming is that we can exactly imagine each shot and how we want it to look, as well as the benefits of the amount of time we will save on the day.

To create our music video we had to purchase both animal masks and smoke effects. We chose woodland creatures as they appeared the most fitting with our style and environment being within the woods. We also believed that they are also the most sinister looking which follows with our music being electronic which is an alternative genre. The style of other music videos we have analysed present a darker and more quirky take, for example Chase and Status often create videos in a narrative style following real life issues, e.g. domestic violence. Other artists we have researched is Basement Jaxx who often present completely random and quirky videos which frequently use different animals, for example in their video, 'Wheres your head at'.
The other props we had to buy to create our chosen scene is smoke bombs/ pellets. We chose these props as we aim to create a certain look and atmosphere. We are hoping to combine both the white and red smoke to create a mystical scene. The use of the white smoke pellets is that we are hoping it will create a misty effect in which our creatures in masks will then walk through to create a sinister and disorientating scene. Both the smoke effects and animal masks will be the main features within our video. We are hoping this will gives us a quirky and edgy effect that will reflect our chosen genre well.
